Way over 100 shows in 2012- a personal record!
I had so much fun at the show here two weeks ago that I had to come back for more…
Great music, nice venue and no cover- how can you beat that?
This time, I got there just in time to sit at the bar and catch the entire show.
Joined on the drums by Mike Hansen, Phil and his band tore through a set of his catchy solo material, capped off by a slight re-working of “Shot In The Dark” (one of Ozzy’s best songs, which was written by Phil).
Dave Filice and Howie Simon are top-notch players and Mike Hansen killed it on the kit.
Everyone loves a good jam and this is a cool scene. A lot of the same musicians from the last jam came back and played again. It’s really neat to see a bunch of great musicians “wing it” and just see what happens. The funny thing is most bands could rehearse forever and not sound as good as these guys doing familiar tunes on a moment’s notice. They’re on another level, for sure.
Howie Simon nailed “Without Love” by the Doobie Brothers on both the vocals and guitar. That may have been the highlight of the night right there.
Cara Lee, Dave Keckhut, Brandon Mitchell and others also threw down with some great singing during a few songs, there was great guitar work by Ricky Z and Jes Selane, among others. Like last time, everyone rocked. You could make a ton of great bands out of everyone that jammed.
JP Cervoni is an incredible guitar player. He plays “Jimi Hendrix-style (left hand guitar player with his guitar strung upside down. And he plays quite the fancy guitar, too. I caught JP’s Evil Blues Band opening for Eric Sardinas at The Canyon earlier this year. Those guys were spectacular. I think the entire band was on hand this evening.
Jimmy D’Anda also joined on the drums for a few tunes. He’s a really cool guy and the songs they played were a lot of fun.
Another great evening of music with a bunch of cool, shredding musicians.
Phil said they’ll be back to play here again in October. I’ll be keeping my Wednesday nights open for the upcoming jams. If you are a fan of good musicianship and rocking tunes, I strongly recommend seeing this band and the great jam session that follows.
