Way over 100 shows in 2012- a personal record!
After attending Disco Inferno a few weeks ago, I felt the need to go back and check out Funky Town.
With the name, I figured it would be another dress-up-type disco band where they had silly clothes and wigs.
Not the case here. While they did a few really good songs from the disco era, a lot of the songs were post-disco dance songs that I wouldn’t have expected, nor would I normally listen to by choice (Beyonce and assorted dance/ club-type tunes that do next nothing for me.).
In any case, this was a great band and this show was a lot of fun. Regardless of what song was being played, they sounded good and the music was enjoyable. The bass lines were spectacular – great playing and that tone that makes the music sound good. And they had a great groove. I kind chuckled when they played “Car Wash”, since there is a car wash in the mall – it just seemed kind of amusing at the time.
They also did some Madonna, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson. During “Billie Jean”, the singer brought some kids onstage and made sure everyone had a great time. The best may have been their version of Kiss by Prince. I liked that one a lot.
