Way over 100 shows in 2012- a personal record!
At the conclusion of the Kill Devil Hill show, my friends and I all went our separate ways. I’m shocked and saddened that nobody wanted to accompany me to Metalachi and All Hail The Yeti at the Viper Room. Never having been to the Viper Room before, I was excited to go. I got there and paid the cover. The lady that took my money told me to go upstairs right away, because the band playing was great. She was right. All Hail The Yeti were awesome. I’m not exactly sure how to categorize their music, but it’s intense and heavy. They were way heavier than Kill Devil Hill. The vocals were “screamy” in a really good way and the music rocked. I was pleasantly surprised by this band and would definitely go see them again.
After seeing Metalachi perform at CityWalk, I needed to catch them again. They tore through their set of metal classics (Slayer, Metallica, Motorhead, Dio, etc.) The musicianship in this band is phenomenal. It dawned on me that Metalachi is sort of like a cross between Steel Panther and Heavy Mellow- heavy metal in a funny, yet skillful context- parody and shred coming together. If they had played until 6AM, I still would have been there. What a phenomenal band.
