Way over 100 shows in 2012- a personal record!
Def Leppard was my favorite band when I was in 5th grade. I had a Union Jack t-shirt, skateboard and I destroyed their cassettes on my tape player. The first song I ever learned on the guitar was photograph.
I didn’t see them in concert until about 20 years later- around 2005. When I did, I was bummed. They sounded like they were done. Then I saw them again last year and they rocked! Talk about a difference!
I was at the House of Blues last week for Steel Panther. Vivian Campbell from Def Leppard came up and played 3 songs with them- two Dio and a Def Leppard tune. They rocked.
Then, it was announced that Def Leppard was doing a free show at the House of Blues this week. Cool!
On Monday night, Def Leppard were on Jay Leno- they played “Rock Of Ages”- it’s the new version(along with Pour Some Sugar on Me”)- the best improvement on the new version of Rock of Ages are the guitar leads – they definitely shred a little more than the original version and Phil Collen makes up for what he played as guest guitarist on That Metal Show.
(Starts around the 40 minute mark):
The show on Wednesday was a first-come first-served event. Lines were long and started early.
Doors opened around 2:00 and the show started around 2:30- things like this only happen in Hollywood on a Wednesday afternoon. The show rocked. Def Leppard killed it! People were stoked to see a huge band in a small venue…. and for free!!! They also had a Q&A after their set, but it wasn’t that exciting- they talked about the Rock Of Ages movie a bit and hey did do a snippet of “Armageddon It” during their interview on stage. Meeting some of the band after the show was cool. And Claude Schnell- the brilliant original keyboard played for Dio was there with Vivian. Nice dudes, for sure.
Glenn Hughes from Black Country Communion hung out with Joe Elliott upstairs after the show.
Elvis with Glenn Hughes in the background.
Rock and Roll Industries Representing
Claude Schnell and Vivian Campbell- I can’t wait for the new Dio project they are working on- Claude rules!!
We then said hi to Stacey from LA Guns – cool dude. And something else I am not quite sure of.
Afterwards, we went back across the street for Saddle Ranch. We ended up sitting by the dudes in Asking Alexandria. They were hilarious. Good times!!
Improper usage of the free cotton candy they give out at Saddle Ranch:
Way to keep up with the 80s “Rock Of Ages theme”
Still wondering about this dude:
Earlier in the week, I found out a party was being thrown for the opening of the Rock of Ages movie right down the street not too long after the conclusion of the show.
I RSVPed and somehow got on the list. Then I got there and got turned away for checking in late…. but I was able to eat a bunch of free food and chug a few beers before leaving! That movie probably sucks anyway. Maybe, out of morbid curiosity, I’ll find out in a few weeks.
