Way over 100 shows in 2012- a personal record!
This was another great event by RockNRoll Industries . The Gibson Showroom in Beverly Hills is a sight to behold and this was quite the stellar Industry Only event with some outstanding entertainment. The showroom is in a prime 90210 location and is lined with guitars from wall to wall. I’m a total guitar geek, so it was quite the great experience to see all the great equipment, along with witnessing some great musical acts.
2012 METAL HAMMER GOLDEN GODS AWARDS Nominee Nik Kai (vote for him here) and Steville Miller came out and played a few tunes to get the show off on a great note.
Along with Nik Kai, there seems to be a lot of great, young up and coming rock bands. Daylight Echo rocks. They played Motely Crue, Iron Maiden, Alice in Chains, a few other covers and some originals that are coming out on iTunes soon. They each sounded great- the band has a young singer with remarkable stage presence, solid drumming, and really good guitar and bass playing. And the sheer number of songs they know and play live was impressive in itself.
They have a great upcoming show at the Canyon in Agoura (I’ve seen all three bands that are playing that evening and it’s definitely worth going to):
I then walked around and checked out guitars. Towards the back, I could hear a band wailing away-Rafael Moreira was tearing it up on the guitar with his band, so I went out to have a look. The first thing I noticed was Glen Sobel on the drums. I once saw Glen play drums in 3 different bands- one after another in the same show- and he’s currently Alice Cooper’s drummer. He’s also involved with an astonishing amount of other bands and is truly one of the best drummers you could find anywhere. Apparently he was filling in for the regular drummer in Magnetico. The band’s set was an awesome display of musicianship.
Hurricane took the stage shortly after they wrapped up. Their set was a lot of fun and everybody had a good time. It was hilarious when Andrew Freeman introduced himself as Lou Gramm. That’s one of the funniest things I’ve heard in a long time.
Cool necklace of the evening:
All kinds of cool guitars and music stuff:
They even have guitars in the bathrooms- that may officially be the coolest thing ever:
Along with their new issue, they were serving Randy Rhoads wine and killer Agave Underground Tequila- even the empty bottles were very cool and definitely worth holding onto.
I had a couple of Monster Energy drinks way too late at night and now I can’t sleep. Anyhow, what an awesome evening- a “Too Cool Tuesday”, for sure.
