Way over 100 shows in 2012- a personal record!
My friends and I barely made it in time to attend the taping of the show. We were on time, but the line was huge and there were many people that were very pumped to be in attendance.
The first show that day was a taping with Brian Johnson from AC/DC with guest guitarist Warren DeMartini from Ratt (this episode aired on VH1 Classic in the USA on 11/26/2011).
Warren’s guitar rig (he played a few Ratt riffs during the first taping, but they were edited out of the airing of the episode):
Here were the people that were relegated to the “cheap seats”/ overflow area for the first taping and were seated to the side of the three “metal” bleachers. They were all given priority seating for the second show. I took their picture to make sure nobody got stiffed for the next taping with Dave Mustaine, Vinny Appice and Rex Brown. That’s why some of them are smiling in the picture.
Prior to the second taping, everyone in the audience is taken outside and lined up to be reseated.
At the conclusion of the first taping, here was “That Metal Crowd” waiting to get in for the second show (it’s always cool getting to know fellow metal fans):
Getting back into the studio allowed for a few pictures on the set before the cameras rolled again (photo ops are clearly spelled out by the production team in between the live sets):
Raf, the producer and DJ Metal Will from KNAC, who played some great tunes throughout.
Pictures of Jim Florentine, Eddie Trunk, Don Jameson and the guests at the conclusion of the taping of the second show (this episodes airs in the USA on December 3, 2011)- guests are Dave Mustaine (Megadeth), Vinny Appice and Rex Brown (Kill Devil Hill) with Warren again as guest guitarist:
The crowd is then gets an opportunity to mingle with the hosts and guests before the studio is cleared out.
Mark getting Eddie and the guys to sign a few shirts for us (always carry a Silver Sharpie in situations like these!)
“MegaSeth” wrapping with Jeff Duncan from DC-4 who was also in the studio audience.
I took some pictures for our new buddy Kat, who also got to meet Mark Schwind a few weeks later.
You can also grab a free shirt on the way out.
This also concluded the taping for Season 9 (the episodes are filmed in different order than they are aired.) It was a fun day and a great end to what promises to be another good season of That Metal Show.
And here’s DJ Will giving everyone the “audio heave-ho” to clear the studio out:
